Rat Care

Our rats live in a variety of single sex groups. Their cages include Explorer, a Savic Royale Suite and Freddy 2's. They have a weekly thorough clean and spot wipes during the week. We furnish the cage with a variety of toys , hammocks (tea towels and old pillow cases work well!), tunnels and boxes. We prefer to use cardboard bedding, supplied by Shedfield Equestrian or Botley Mills . We also use shredded paper as bedding.

Housing

Cage

Our rats all get free ranging time each day. They come out for exercise and cuddles, which gives us a chance to give them a health check too. They have access to additional toys during this fun time-but tend to prefer using us as a climbing frame!

Handling and Exercise -the fun bit!

We feed our rats on a homemade mix based at the moment on Harrisons banana brunch, dog kibble and low sugar breakfast cereals. We also give them small amounts of wholemeal dried pasta, fresh foods and other healthy treats. If you would like more information on feeding rats please see the Scuttling Gourmet
